About Hein Klaver
In 2022, Hein A.M. Klaver Art Gallery celebrated its 30th anniversary. It was a milestone year for Hein Klaver and his wife Laura Fresco. They jointly run the gallery. Hein works on the collection daily, while Laura is responsible for all communications and publicity.
HOW IT STARTED
Hein Klaver’s passion for art came early. His father, Jacobus A. Klaver, amassed a magnificent collection of 17th-century Dutch drawings in the 1980s, always accompanied by his son when art purchases were made.
The collection was of such high quality that the Print Room of the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam dedicated an exhibition to it in 1993, entitled “Drawings by Old Masters, The Jacobus A. Klaver Collection” (catalog published by Waanders, 271 pages).
PASSION FOR PAPER
Helping to build this collection of drawings led to a passion for works on paper that is so characteristic of Hein Klaver.
After managing the art collection of a renowned collector for many years, Hein Klaver opened his own art dealership on De Lairessestraat in Amsterdam in 1992.
He specialized in drawings, watercolors, and pastels, but not 17th-century drawings. Hein was much more fascinated by the period 1880–1950, a period that saw a diversity of art movements. From the Hague School to Symbolism, from Impressionism to Expressionism, and from Fauvism to Magic Realism.
Besides works on paper, you will also find oil paintings in the Hein A.M. Klaver Art Dealership collection. Hague School painters like Willem Roelofs, Jacob Maris, Johannes Bosboom, and Hendrik Willem Mesdag; Tachtigers like Isaac Israels, George Breitner, Willem Bastiaan Tholen, Willem Witsen, and Jacobus van Looy; and Modernists like Leo Gestel, Jan Sluijters, and Jan Toorop.
“Works on paper are fascinating. In a drawing, watercolor, or pastel, you recognize the hand of the master. A painter paints until they are satisfied with the result. But a pencil drawing, watercolor, or pastel must be created in one sitting.”
PERSONAL ATTENTION
Hein Klaver participates in PAN Amsterdam and organizes themed exhibitions several times a year in Baarn, where the art gallery has been located since 2005. The exhibitions in his own art gallery are often enhanced by a captivating lecture.
After 30 years, Hein can rightly call himself a connoisseur par excellence. Over the years, the library, with its reference works from the period 1880–1950, has grown to a substantial size. He knows how to characterize each newly acquired work.
“It remains a challenge to search and seek out unique works. I don’t compromise; my collection truly consists only of works I passionately support. My clients know and appreciate that.”
Purchasing a work of art from Hein Klaver means personal guidance in a relaxed atmosphere. The art gallery is located on the outskirts of Baarn, on the Eempolder, and has its own parking facilities.
“I enjoy sharing my passion with an art buyer. It’s a good feeling when someone, just like me, is delighted with the artwork they’ve purchased.”
You’re also in good hands when it comes to selling your artwork. Hein Klaver buys personally or brokers the sale of paintings, watercolors, pastels, or drawings on your behalf.
